Josh Donaldson is MLB Network’s Top Third Baseman Right Now

To the surprise of virtually no one, Josh Donaldson is the top third baseman right now. Not only that, but he’s one of the top players overall in Major League Baseball and he has the MVP hardware to prove it.

Last night, MLB Network presented their “Top 10 Third Baseman Right Now” list, and the Bringer or Rain handily owned the throne as baseball’s top player at the hot corner.

Josh Donaldson held off rookie sensation Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs for the top spot on the list. Donaldson has slowly inched his way up the ranks as the best players at third base, as he finished second in 2015 and fifth in 2014.

In many ways, Josh Donaldson’s MVP campaign in 2015 helped legitimize him as one of the best baseball players in MLB. He may have been viewed as an aberration during his days with the A’s, but 2015 was no fluke for Josh Donaldson.

He may have garnered some MVP votes in 2013 and 2014, but this past season was a culmination of all five of Josh Donaldson’s tools working in perfect harmony.

As incredible of a season as Josh Donaldson had this past season, Steamer has him projected to regress by almost 3 WAR. But at a 5.9 WAR projection, that would still place Donaldson as tops among third baseman in 2016.

Here’s the full list of MLB Network’s Top 10 Third Baseman Right now as compiled by the “Shredder”.
