The Blue Jays’ Original Logo Declared the 2nd Best Baseball Logo by Todd Radom
Fans have a special place in their heart for the logo of the team they grew up watching. Whether that team was good or bad, a logo always brings back a lot of memories. For the Toronto Blue Jays, most of those fond memories are tied to one special bird which took flight back in 1977.
It’s hard to believe this classic logo is 40 years old, but it’s a testament to its timeless design. One person who took notice? Esteemed sports graphic designer Todd Radom who paid homage to the classic bird design.
If you’ve been following along, he’s been counting down the Top 30 Baseball Logos of All-Time for ESPN’s Baseball Tonight podcast.

Today it was revealed that the Toronto Blue Jays logo made it all the way up to number two on the list. Check out the podcast of the segment here, but Radom heaped high praise on the Blue Jays’ original logo.
“It’s a modern classic. The Jays original logo pulled off a particularly difficult feat with a memorable and classy look that is optically flawless.”
Earlier this year, I spoke to Richard Walker who told the story behind the creation of the original Blue Jays logo from 1977. His comments echoed what Radom said about the design; it’s one of those logos that gets better with age.
I have such an affinity for that classic Jays logo that I recently bought this BP pullover Blue Jays jersey and it’s like stepping back into 1991 all over again.

At any rate, thanks to Mr. Radom for shouting out the Toronto Blue Jays throwback logo and giving it the praise it deserves.
I sure hope they ditch the “Let’s Rise” logo!
(After a season where the Jays didn’t rise out of last place the new logo obviously was a dud!)
