Jose Bautista Steals Second With Nobody Watching

Reckless base running decisions have gotten the Toronto Blue Jays in trouble on several occasions this season. They’ve often been way too aggressive or just straight-up silly on the base paths.

Jose Bautista did his very best on Saturday night to right that ship by taking advantage of an opportunity afforded to him by the Seattle Mariners.

After drawing a walk in the top of the eighth inning, Bautista slowly rounded first base, and with Tony Zych  staring blankly towards home plate and Robinson Cano nowhere near second base, Joey Bats took off for second and stretched a typical walk into an atypical double.

Scott Servais’ response to the play was pretty great; it is the epitome of the “AWW MAN” reaction.

If the play looks familiar to Blue Jays fans, that’s because Marco Scutaro did the exact same thing back in 2009 against the Phillies. Scutaro also caught the opposition napping and stretched a walk into a double.
