There’s no other way to put it; Jason Grilli has been a Godsend for the Blue Jays ever since his arrival on May 31st.

Grilli helped stabilize a shaky Blue Jays’ bullpen and he’s pitched like a completely rejuvenated man in a Blue Jays uniform. Considering Grilli’s contributions thus far, it’s difficult to imagine where the Blue Jays would be without him this season.

One of the best things about watching Jason Grilli during his short time in Toronto is the raw emotion he plays with. When he comes up with a strikeout, it’s like he just recorded the final out of the World Series.

Grilli often employs his patented fist pump when he ends the inning with a strikeout. Just for fun, here are all his fist pumps thus far as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. There are a lot of them already.

Jason Grilli strikes out three batters in the inning, finishes the game by getting Manny Machado to chase.

One day later, Grilli gets the call yet again; this time he picks up the save by striking out Jonathan Schoop.

July 7th vs Detroit Tigers

It wouldn’t be a Jason Grilli inning if he didn’t rack up a K; this time he fans Justin Upton to end the eighth inning.

July 24th vs Seattle Mariners

Protecting a slim 2-0 lead against the Mariners, Jason Grill goes after Seth Smith and strikes him out swinging.

July 29th vs Baltimore Orioles

Grilli started out this inning a little rocky by giving up a solo home run to Machado, but Grilli settles in and collects a pair of K’s and strikes out Matt Wieters swinging.

August 8th vs Tampa Bay Rays

No problem once again for Jason Grilli; here he strikes out Tim Beckham to end the inning.

August 13th vs Houston Astros

Just yesterday, Jason Grilli is probably the most animated he’s been this entire season in striking out Carlos Correa.

Ian has been writing about the Toronto Blue Jays since 2007. He enjoyed the tail-end of the Roy Halladay era and vividly remembers the Alex Rodriguez “mine” incident. He’ll also retell the story of Game 5 of the ALDS to his kids for the next 20 years.

Jason Grilli scribbles in the dirt near the mound before he steps onto it the initials T.M. and C.G. First, “T.M.” for his friend, Tim Metzger, who passed away, and “C.G.” for his grandmother, Catherine Giampretro, who “means a lot to me,” says Grilli. The other writing is the sign of the cross, which is a spiritual connection for the Christian.
