Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler as Shirt Twins

I’m not sure if you guys have noticed something kind of funny about the Blue Jays broadcasts on Rogers Sportsnet during the current road trip, but I have.

It appears as though Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler are either sharing the exact same wardrobe, or they’re really really big fans of the silk button-up short sleeved shirts.

At first I thought their luggage might have gotten lost and they had to stock up on shirts in Baltimore at a nearby Target, but this pattern has continued on for the past seven games. Here’s the proof below:

July 16th vs. Baltimore Orioles

July 17th vs. Baltimore Orioles

July 18th vs. Baltimore Orioles

July 19th vs. Kansas City Royals

July 20th vs. Kansas City Royals

July 21st vs. Kansas City Royals

July 22nd vs. Detroit Tigers

My personal favourite? The salmon coloured shirts Buck and Pat wore during the second game of the Orioles series. The pink really brings out the flesh tones in Buck’s skin.

It’s not my sense of style, but hey … if it worked for Frank Costanza, it can certainly for Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler – for 10 straight games.

They better pimp the 80s look on Monday. I vote the white shirts and skinny ties.

Good idea – OR just have them wear their Blue Jays jerseys from the 80's (even though Tabby didn't play for the Jays until 1991, he should do it anyway).

I don't think they get to choose the outfits they wear on air. Those are Sportsnet decisions.

I think you are right Peter, and if I were Buck or Tabler I'd be pushing to get said person fired…

Peter, you're right – they probably have a wardrobe person or something, but couldn't Buck and Pat at least wear a different coloured shirt?

Matt, it'll be interesting to see how long this trend continues. I'm sure it will at least go until the end of the road trip.

I won't be watching the game tonight (damn friends with no cable!) but I will keep an I on it tomorrow and Sunday. Who thought this was a good idea?

Glorious. No, I mean, I think the colour is called "Glorious Pink".

If we looked on the tag of those shirts, I'm sure they'd say "Glorious Pink" … without a doubt. That's a man's man colour.

The best part about all these shots is comparing their expressions – Tabler always has the same pasted-on smile while Buck has this bizarre look of fretfulness and a single raised eyebrow, or both.

sadp, you're totally right! Pat has a smirk on in each shot, and Buck is trying to do the people's eyebrow.

While you guys are musing about wardrobe, I have a question for you? Would Detroit be a strong divisional/regional rival for you worthy of 18 games played each season?

In the pennant race league Toronto and Detroit this weekend is for
1st Tier positioning. Toronto is 30-29 in 4th, 8 games back; and Detroit is in 5th 21-21 8 1/2 back.

    Have fun!

Cliff, I'm definitely all for the Jays/Tigers playing more than two series the entire season. It would help restore some of that old regional/divisional rivalry from back in the day. Plus, it also would make for an excuse to head down to Detroit for a series.

…not to mention being more fun, more genuinely competitive, and way less annoying than having to deal with Yankees and Red Sox fans all the damn time.
