VIDEO: The Josh Donaldson Song “Josh” by Renders/Kelly McMichael
It’s early October, the regular season is over and there’s a void in Blue Jays Land. Not because the team has packed it in for another year; it’s because fans have to wait two more days to see their beloved Blue Jays take the field once again.
With the slew of off-days until the Blue Jays are back in action, now seems like as good a time as any to catch up on any Blue Jays-related reading and viewing. One such example is the latest offering in honour of Josh Donaldson.
Kelly McMichael (AKA Renders) has released a song devoted solely to the Toronto Blue Jays third baseman, Josh Donaldson. It’s pretty damn catchy and has the accompanying visuals of Josh Donaldson below.

Here’s how Kelly describes her motivation behind writing the song:
“I started writing the song after the September 8th vs Boston game when he hit that wild physics-defying triple off the corner of the back wall in the 10th inning.
At that moment it erupted to the point where I needed to express it in something beyond words. It was like the song was playing in my head, it all came out pretty quickly.
I had to grab the guitar and play along while watching the rest of the game. I considered trying to write some more clever lyrics, but the simplicity and the almost stalker-ish vibe just felt right.
I wanted to make sure it had that “jock jam” vibe, which isn’t usually my style but i think I did alright for a first try.
So what exactly was it that drew Kelly towards Josh Donaldson in particular?
“I think my favourite thing about him is his ability to come up with these glorious achievements in key moments where you just can’t believe your eyes.
He also always looks graceful and controlled, and doesn’t have that meat-head jock vibe that rubs me the wrong way.
The team overall seems to have a more sophisticated vibe than some teams (excusing the celebration of the AL east division clinch, which was totally much deserved).”
So does she have any plans to writing any other Blue Jays-centric songs in the future?
“I would love to write more Blue Jays themed songs, especially if I could generate some sort of income off of it. Russell Martin would be next on the list, and Bautista definitely deserves one after all this time.
Price and Stroman would be great song candidates as well.”
