Flashback Friday: Devon White Was in a Slam Dunk Contest in 1992

The internet is a wonderful place. Like a time capsule buried for decades, it it often houses the rarest gems, only to have someone discover these hidden gems and share them with the entire world.

At times, Youtube is its very own time capsule for once-forgotten Toronto Blue Jays commercials, plays, and oddities like this; a slam dunk contest featuring none other than Devon White.

In honour of Flashback Friday, here’s Devon White participating in the 1992 Foot Locker Slam Fest. Hat tip to Michael Clair of Cut 4 for unearthing this video, as well as a glove tap to @GrubersMullet for noticing that Toronto Blue Jay Devon White took part in the festivities.

The entire slam dunk competition is posted in its entirely, but you can click on the play button below to skip ahead to Devon White’s round versus Michael Irvin.

Devon White’s dunks weren’t all that flashy, but like his play in the outfield, Devo’s dunks were technically sound. Unfortunately, his score of 9.4 wasn’t enough to surpass Super Bowl champion Michael Irvin.

Here’s the interesting thing; not only did Devon White participate in the Foot Locker Slam Fest in 1992, he was also a participant as a member of the California Angels in 1988.
