Michael Saunders Hits a Hat Trick of Home Runs, Fans Toss Their Hats on the Field

One of the coolest moments of the 2015 was on August 29th when Edwin Encarnacion hit three home runs in one game, and Blue Jays fans proceeded to throw their hats onto the field at the Rogers Centre.

It was a spontaneous and completely organic moment; it seemed so simple and kind of weird, but that moment was unlike anything I’d ever seen at a Blue Jays game. Not often do players hit three home runs in one game, and less often do the fans show their appreciation by tossing their caps onto the grass.

But that’s exactly what the faithful Blue Jays fans did at Camden Yards last night. When Michael Saunders clubbed his third home run of the game, as he rounded the bases, the Blue Jays acted accordingly.

Michael Saunders went yard three times in a single game, the 21st time that had happened in Blue Jays franchise history.

There was a large and loud Canadian contingent in Baltimore, and as Saunders rounded third aftet he hit his third home run, the Sportsnet cameras caught the caps raining down from the stands.

Saunders spoke to Barry Davis after the game, and Michael even got to take home one of the caps as a souvenir from his historic game against the Orioles.

The most impressive part of all? The hat trick/hats thing happened on the road, not at home. Toronto Blue Jays fans practically took over Camden Yards last night. For some reason, there were even Jays fans dressed as chickens in the left field bleachers.

Not long after this, they were apparently escorted out of the building. I guess every chicken has an expiry date. For these chickens, it was the seventh inning.

I was a few rows behind the chickens, and the entire section nearly revolted when they were kicked out. #FreeTheChickens
